Water Supply in Everyday Life

Preparations you can make at home

Preparations for storing water

  • One thing that is really useful after an earthquake is stored water.
When storing water, you should take a clean storage container with a lid and fill it with fresh water from the tap right up to the opening. You can drink the stored water for up to 3 days, if stored out of direct sunlight. (Because water that has been passed through a domestic water filter lacks the chlorine that kills bacteria, in that case you will need to change the stored water every day.) When changing the water, you can use the old water for cleaning or washing clothes.
